Austin, Texas Travel Guide

Austin was a lovely city to visit! I traveled here to offer my clothing collection, Danu Organic, at Renegade Craft. I was struck by the smile everyone in the city wore. The landscape was lush with oak trees, even in late autumn. Apparently it’s a great growing climate that can even support citrus. The legendary Keep Austin Weird vibe was embraced by businesses and residents alike. I had only five days in Austin, but I made the most of it and will be looking for any excuse to spend a bit more time here.

EAT

  • Dai Due - By far my favorite meal I ate while I was in Austin. Local & seasonal with much of the food cooked over the fire in their indoor oven. The staff was so friendly too.

  • Picnik - I had so many picnik bone broths & I regret none. They’re downtown location is outdoor seating only, grab-and-go style but they have a full-on restaurant just a couple miles out of city center, on Burnet Road, that’s worth a visit if you’re craving a wellness centric meal.

  • Counter Cafe - Caddy-corner from Arrive Hotel, this is a great place to get an organic breakfast. Happy diner vibes and tasty fare.

  • Hillside Farmacy - A cute place in an old pharmacy that’s rebranded into a “farmacy.” I went one night and got nothing but vegetable sides. That was great. I also had breakfast here and thought the dinner was far better.

SIP

  • June’s - You want it, June’s got it! Known for their wine selection, this cute spot has interesting food offerings too.

  • Café No Sé - go for coffee, stay for brunch

SHOP

  • Miranda Bennett Studio - beautiful naturally dyed silk garments plus a thoughtfully curated selection of goods from other small businesses

VISIT

STAY

  • Arrive Hotel - This stay could not have been lovelier. A boutique hotel that only opened five months prior to my stay, ever detail in my room was thoughtfully curated. My room felt spacious with polished concrete floors with a large, oriental rug, floor-to-ceiling windows, a marble counter in the bathroom and welcoming items from small, regional businesses. An unexpected bonus was how friendly and happy the staff were. Also, an unexpected collaboration with Danu Organic may arise… we shall see! That said, this stay was in no way sponsored.

RECOVER + WELLNESS

  • Austin Ashiatsu - GO HERE. This was my first ashiatsu experience, a deep tissue massage delivered with the practitioners feet. I saw Andrea, who I recommend, but I' have a feeling everyone is talented. We worked through what felt like years of tension in my back.

  • Tiny Taiga - Appointment required

  • Austin Bouldering Project - fun rock climbing gym where you can get a day pass or do some yoga
